Abstract In this paper I provide a decolonial critique of received knowledge about deliberative democracy. Legacies colonialism have generally been overlooked in theories These omissions challenge several key assumptions argue that democracy does not travel well outside Western sites and its begin to unravel the ‘developing’ regions world. The context for is ongoing violent conflicts over resource extraction former colonies Africa, Asia Latin America. cannot take into account needs marginalized stakeholders who are defending their lands livelihoods. contributes literature by (1) offering hegemonic models address issues inequality colonial difference (2) possibilities imagine counterhegemonic alternatives democratization from below.
